for US Agency for International Development (through Aid to Artisans)

Economics. Environment. Equity. Development of a true triple-bottom-line solution, sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development in Madampe, Sri Lanka.

Local, at-risk youth are employed by a local, family-owned manufacturer to make export-quality toys from a locally-harvested material and readily-available, child-safe paints. The wood comes from fast-growing trees Albizia, a tree harvested at the end of life from tea plantations where it is used as a wind break.
